This is a Hey everyone!
I’m still doing awesome here in Beja. It’s good to hear the family is doing ok. I’m sorry to hear what happened to Lauren I hope she gets better soon. She will be in my prayers! In this email I’m going to try and answer all your questions. Ok, so about Bernardo. His mom is a member who was baptized about a month before Bernardo was. My companion, Elder Beckstrand who is from Californian was already in Beja with another elder. They had a couple lessons with him but I had the majority of teaching him.
I love my trainer, he and I are best of friends and we joke around and have a lot of fun. We always follow the rules and always go the extra mile. We try to talk with everyone that we meet. We get rejected a lot but that doesn’t stop us. One of the people we talk to will want to hear what we have to say so that is why we keep trying. Yes I got a haircut, it was getting too long. Yes, its getting lighter. I think it is because i am outside like all day.
Ok, the smoke here is so gross I hate and I mean I HATE the smell of smoke. We were talking with someone in the road one time and he didn’t like us one bit and all we asked was if he wanted to go to church with us on Sunday and he told us in English to F off and took a breath of his smoke and blew it in our face. We just walked away. Other than him most people in Beja are nice. They help me on learning the language.
I can now speak Portuguese pretty well but it’s harder to understand it. I can teach someone a lesson but if they talk back I will get a word here and there but I don’t understand them all the way. Mom that (blue cow outfit – see picture) you mentioned is not a cow it’s a Blue Dragon pajama onesie. In our house we all have one. My companion has a raccoon and the other elders have superman and a batman. Hope that answered that question haha.
This week we have been focusing on one small family. There is the mom Julieta and the son Paulo. We have been teaching them for about 2 weeks now and they really like the church. We have been teaching them all the lessons and will very soon invite them to be baptized. We are thinking about this Saturday with the mom and the fallowing week will be Paulo. I am really happy that they are seeing the light of Christ in their lives.
Ok so I have a really cool story for you guys. So one night we were walking around trying to find someone to teach. So we sat on a bench and I said a prayer to help us find someone to teach and lead us in the right direction. After I ended the prayer I for some odd reason had to go to the bathroom really bad. So we started to walk to the closest bathroom and I saw this old lady and I had a feeling that we need to go and talk this lady. So we went over and started to talk with her. It turns out that she was a member of our church and was not active, but only because whenever she would go to church her husband would beat her because he didn’t want her to go to our church. She told us that he left her and that she has wanted to go back to church. She even told us that she has a 24-year old daughter who was not baptized and was interested in going to church as well. After we talked with her and got her info to teacher her soon we left and after we talked I didn’t have to go to the bathroom any more. The Lord works in mysterious ways but those mysterious ways work haha. I’m so glad to be a part of this wonderful church. I love it so much. I love my savior Jesus Christ and the perfect example he is to all of us. I want to do my best to be like he was. I know that God is our loving Heavenly Father, and that he lives. I love you guys so much and pray for you always. Stay cool and remember I am always with you in spirit.
With all my love,
Elder Rusnell
