Hello Family,
Wow I was reading your emails and you have a lot of questions so I will try and see if I can answer them all. First off I would like to start by letting you guys now about our 2nd baptism we had this week. Her name is Julieta. She is the one we were teaching with her son Paulo. It took a couple weeks with her because she had a problem smoking, coffee, and ice tea, but she was so strong and gave up all that stuff in a week. She really has a strong heart. Her son Paulo wants to be baptized in December so his sister can watch him be baptized. His sister lives in France but she comes to Portugal for Christmas so that’s when he wanted to do it. I have attached pictures to the email.
Ok now for your questions. The language is coming really well. In the mornings we have our personal study, companion study, and then language study. I have scriptures and Preach My Gospel in Portuguese and we read from those in Portuguese. We also practice teaching each other in Portuguese. As for the finger signs in the pictures, no that’s just what the missionaries do. There is nothing cultural about it haha. In Portugal we don’t really eat at members’ homes or investigator’s houses. If we do it will probably be like 3 times our whole mission. The food here is good I guess I will say America has better food. Juice and water here are so cheap I could get about 2 gallons of water for about $0.50 it’s so cool. In church we have members that give talks and every once in a while they will have a missionary give a talk. I have not yet said a talk in church but I have sung a song haha. I did speak about the Holy Ghost at Julietas baptism though.
For the missionary moment next week I would tell them: To be a missionary doesn’t mean you have to be a full-time missionary you can be a missionary just by sharing the gospel with others. As a missionary our purpose is to invite others to come unto Christ. Everyone back at home can be a missionary as well just by doing this simple step. Whether it be talking with a friend about church or inviting them to mutual or just sharing your testimony with your friends. All those things are missionary work. So even if you aren’t a missionary but do these things, you are being a missionary. Hope that will helps. I hope everyone had a fun a safe Halloween. I love you all and pray for everyone back at home.
With all my love,
Elder Rusnell
