Most of this is in response to questions we asked Tyler:
- What’s my new companion’s name? Elder (Daniel) Hansen, he is really cool and is 21.
- Where he is from? Washington State
- How many transfers does he have? He has 5 transfers and I have 4
- What’s my area like? Beautiful, there is so much history here and actually Portugal first started here in the city of Guimaráes.
- Do I live with any other Elders? No only me and Elder Hansen even though we could fit like 6 Elders in our house.
- New address? We don’t have a good mailing system here so you just have to send it to the mission office. But don’t worry I get stuff from the mission office once a month.
- Is it cold in the north? YES! It’s very cold here. In fact our house didn't have heaters so for a week we were freezing our butts off. We finally got heaters today. Thank goodness!!!
- Do I have a missionary couple here (like the Jeffers in Beja)? No the north part of Portugal doesn’t have mission couples because it’s a stake. They only have them in the south.
- How was the Bus ride? Very long!! It was so weird to be by myself for 8 hours. Ha-ha I would keep looking over to say something to my companion, but when I did there was no one there, it was weird. So when I first got here in Guimaráes I was so tired from the bus ride, but I was so excited to go to Guimaráes. The house is a really old house, but it is a really big house. I’m surprised that this is only a 2 Elder house. My second impression on the house was how dirty it was. I mean there was dust bunny's everywhere. Plus when I opened the fridge there was nothing in it. I knew that this house needed a lot of work to it. So that’s what we did this p-day was clean the house and get all the supplies that the house needed. So because the house is really big it gets really cold and the house didn’t have any heaters so it was super icy cold. You could see your breath. Don’t worry about us we have heaters now and are living in a clean house.
One thing that is really cool about him is that he will only speak Portuguese inside the house and outside. This is helping me a lot. I have noticed that I can understand him and other people a lot more now. It is easier for me to have a more clear conversation with someone now. I’m really excited to work more with him and find the people that God has in our path. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to serve here in Guimaráes with Elder Hansen. I love you all so much and pray for you every day.
With all my love,
Elder Rusnell
